Dorothy Smith Circle

In 1964 the Mt. Sylvan Women’s Society of Christian Service decided to form two circles: one circle would meet during the day and the other at night. The Dorothy Smith Circle was formed as the circle meeting during the day. This circle was named for Dorothy Smith who was a longtime member of Mt. Sylvan Church and the United Methodist Women. Her daughter, Cindy Bryant, is now a member of the Dorothy Smith Circle.

The Dorothy Smith Circle meets in members’ homes on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Twice a year there are “outings” which sometimes include spouses. Ann Hayes is the Chairperson and Betty Perschel is Treasurer. There are currently eleven (11) active members of this circle with two inactive members.

This circle provides care, such as food, errands, visits and other services, for our members as well as family members when sick or during bereaved times. We also assist with care for others in our church and community. One of our mission focuses was to contribute to the mission trip that Mt. Sylvan youth made in July. Another mission focus is that we contribute to a needy family in our community at Christmas time.

The Dorothy Smith Circle plans a project for the annual Fall Festival.

Please contact Ann Hayes, Chairperson, at 477-4395 for more information. This circle welcomes new members.
