The Luster Gold Smith Circle

Co-Chairs: Donna Bowers & Bobbie Reeves
Treasurer: Sidney Murchison

The Luster Gold Smith Circle meets at 9:30 AM on the second Thursday of February, March, May, June, August, September, and November. The meetings are held in the parlor of the chapel and refreshments are served. To celebrate Christmas, the circle has a brunch in a member’s home usually on the first Saturday of the month. Currently the Luster Gold Smith Circle has 13 members.

The members of the circle are very diverse in their backgrounds; the majority of the members are retired but a few are continuing in their careers.

The goal of our circle follows the UMW Purpose, “a community of women whose purpose is to know God…., to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.”

Some of the missions supported by the circle include:

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) – Providing the Sunday evening meal for the guest. This project is shared with the Mildred Cook Circle

School Kit Program – The school kits are taken to the UMW Annual Conference for distribution

MATCH Program – This program brings incarcerated women together with their children for periodic visits in a home like setting so they can continue to be a part of their children’s life.

Robeson Community – Robeson County is one of the poorest counties in North Carolina. The circle promotes a toy drive for the Christmas holiday for the children’s benefit. New and gently used items are collected and delivered to the center.

In 2008 the circle received the Seven Star Member award for completing the following programs:

Candle Burning, Special Mission Recognition, and Pledge to Missions, Gift to Mission, and Gift in Memory, World Thank Offering and A Penny and A Prayer.

Please join us in the name of Jesus Christ to continue our journey to serve the women and children who are less fortunate.
