In the 1964-65 church year, the Women’s Society of Christian Service voted to divide into two circles. The now known McKay circle was one of those circles. At a later date, it was named the McKay circle after Mrs. Cora Woods McKay.
Mrs. McKay and her husband joined Mt. Sylvan in the year of 1924. On December 4, 1966, she was honored as an outstanding member of Mt. Sylvan. She was a member of the McKay circle until her death (she lived to be 100 years old). Mrs. McKay had three sons and one daughter. Her daughter, Patsy, was a member of the circle until her death.
Mildred Cooke has been a member of this circle since it was formed in 1965 and is still taking an active part when she is able. We have many members that joined around the 1965 - 1970 years.
Our circle is a group of mostly retired women. We have a lot to offer any age group because of our love for the circle and it’s members and mostly because of our love of God and his love for us!
We have 16 members and meet the third Monday at 10 AM in the parlor. We bring our lunch (sandwich and drink) and after our meeting, we eat and have our social time.
Our mission focus is mainly on local missions. We always seem to find needs in our church family and community. We have also supported our wounded veterans in Walter Reed Hospital. We try to be available where need arises. We welcome new members as we want to continue to grow and carry on the name of Mrs. Cora Woods McKay and her daughter, Patsy.
