WORSHIP SERVICES

In late 2009, the pastors of Mt. Sylvan convened a Task Force representing many groups in our congregation to help us best determine how we as a church might best move through the growing pains experienced by a successful Contemporary worship service and its effects on Sunday School. After many long hours of discussion, prayer, study, and conversation with their representative groups, the Task Force came to the unanimous consensus that the best way for us to order our life together so as to best reach out to our neighbors AND best utilize the resources we have at our disposal would be to assume the following order for Sunday mornings:

8:30 Traditional Worship
9:45 Sunday School
11:00 Contemporary Worship

This consensus was affirmed by the Administrative Council at their meeting on February 23rd. Along with the Task Force and Administrative Council, the pastors of Mt. Sylvan affirm this as the model that we will work to live into as a congregation beginning on Easter Sunday, April 4th. We recognize that this change, as with any change, stirs up a lot of emotions, fears, and concerns. While it may be the best option for us for now, it doesn't mean that it doesn't come without cost to the congregation and to many individuals. It will take time for us to live into this new plan and we pray that along with the Task Force and the Administrative Council, you too will commit to living into this new plan despite the challenges it presents to all of us. If you have questions, comments, or concerns that you would like to express about this new plan, we invite you to come to either of two listening sessions that we are setting up for this very purpose. The first will be this Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and the second will be next Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
